Ninth Letter
Ninth Letter is a selected course at the University of Illinois in which students apply to work on the design of a published book. “Ninth Letter is a literary magazine that publishes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. It is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the School of Art + Design and the Creative Writing Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.”
The first project seen is a practice exercise to apply our layout and design skills. This project took text from The Scarlet Letter and was risographed onto cardstock and simply bound.
9th Letter Volume 16 no. 1 - Spring/Summer 2019
12 designers spent 16 weeks creating a theme of “Dreams/Illusions” which went through many phases of font studies, typography, layout, color selection, production, and many other aspects of design. Ninth Letter Volume 16 no. 1 - Spring/Summer 2019 is now published and available for purchase.
